ICTAAL - National Instruction on Technical Design Requirements for Rural Motorways
2015 edition - 2021 Update
ICTAAL is the baseline technical document for design of motorways in interurban areas: divided-carriageway roads having two or more lanes in link sections, with grade-separated junctions and isolated from their surroundings.
The document indicates the general principles to be taken into account when preparing new infrastructure projects or improving the existing network and provides the basic technical rules related to definition of geometrical elements of the planned infrastructures.
For the national road network, the government instruction dated 13/07/2015 gives this document the status of Instruction on Technical Design Requirements for Interurban Motorways.
For other road networks, the regional authorities may use these technical recommendations to prepare projects under their responsibility.
