Decarbonising everyday mobility
Challenges and levers for regional action
The transport sector is particularly concerned by the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. To decarbonise transport, we need to mobilise everyone to take swift action at every level. Both educational and operational, this notebook provides the keys to understanding the issues and the levers for action in order to find a strategy that can be adapted to local contexts.
The transport sector, which accounts for a third of national emissions, is the only one whose emissions have increased since 1990. It is therefore very much affected by the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
There is now an urgent need to take action at all territorial levels and on all levers of action aimed at decarbonising daily mobility: transport demand, modal shift, vehicle filling, energy efficiency and the carbon intensity of the energies used. This booklet is an active contribution to this effort. It provides a theoretical and practical knowledge base for local initiatives. Its proposals are intended to be adapted and adapted on the ground, according to local contexts.
Mobility enables people to carry out their activities, businesses to operate and local communities to live. Decarbonising transport is therefore a major challenge. The ecological transition it calls for must be economically sustainable, fair, inclusive and based on shared strategies in regional projects.
Cerema, a public expert in mobility and transition, is working to meet this challenge. It is developing methods and tools for organising mobility, planning public spaces, developing active modes of transport and car sharing, and rethinking logistics systems.
