Road safety : Cerema’s expertise contributing to World Bank projects
The World Bank contracted Cerema to review the process of data collection on road safety in Cameroun, in 2023

A Cerema team, in partnership with the Gustave Eiffel University (UGE), went on mission to Yaoundé from March 27th to April 3rd 2023 to review the processes implemented regarding data collection on road safety data. The organization and method of collecting road safety data is of utmost  importance in identifying the main issues at stake and guiding road safety policies definition and implementation afterwards. The project team  included Florian Vanco (CEREMA), Amina Ndiaye and Cécile Coquelet (UGE).

In Cameroon, the mortality figures estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO) are worrying: and this mission was an opportunity to audit the entire road safety data collection process by meeting the main stakeholders involved (Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, police, gendarmerie, hospitals).

The final report made a series of recommendations to achieve the objective of setting up a reliable and exhaustive database on road accidents. The mission was concluded by a workshop on September 6th 2023 jointly chaired by representatives of the Ministry of Transport and the World Bank.
