References
The SURE process - which stands for Sécurité des Usagers sur les Routes Existantes (Safety of users on existing roads) - aims to improve safety on a road network by identifying and then treating the routes offering the greatest potential safety gains.
This is achieved in a four-step process:
- Know the safety issues, in order to identify priority routes;
- Understand how these routes operate by conducting diagnostic assessments in order define suitable courses of action;
- Implement action plans on the selected routes;
- Assess the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
This document describes the safety issue analysis, which is the first step in the SURE process. It is the third version of the "SURE Process - Road Safety Issue Analysis for Route Prioritisation" methodology guide, originally published in October 2006 (Démarche SURE - Étude d’enjeux de sécurité routière pour la hiérarchisation des itinéraires), with a second version in June 2012.
